Northern Mantis Brazil is the largest Praying Mantis Gung Fu school in the country, with a presence in 10 Brazilian states and the United Kingdom. The school was founded in 1999 with the support and presence of Grandmaster Brendan Lai (1942–2002). Head Instructor Dr. Samuel Mendonça, a university professor for over 25 years and a martial arts instructor since 1996, has led the training of two generations of certified instructors, in 2014 and 2019. He is responsible for the development and preservation of the lineage of Grandmaster Brendan Lai and Master Tony Chuy in Brazil, which traces back to Hong Kong’s legendary “King” of Praying Mantis, Grandmaster Wong Hon-Funn. Northern Mantis Brazil follows the official curriculum of Master Tony Chuy’s school, maintaining the integrity of the traditional system while promoting its growth for future generations.

Instructor Samuel Mendonça is a disciple of Grandmaster Brendan Lai (Hong Kong/USA) and continues his studies in the USA under Master Tony Chuy, his elder kung fu brother, in New York City. Mendonça holds a degree in Philosophy, a Master's in Ethics (PUC Campinas), a PhD in Philosophy of Education (Unicamp), and a Postdoctoral degree (USP). He is also a CNPq researcher. Currently, he is a Full Professor at Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas and a Visiting Scholar at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, USA.

O Instrutor Chefe Samuel Mendonça (phd), professor universitário há mais de 25 anos e instrutor de artes marciais desde 1996, já formou duas turmas de instrutores, uma em 2014 e outra em 2019. Ele é o responsável pelo desenvolvimento da linhagem do Grão-Mestre Brendan Lai e Mestre Tony Chuy no Brasil, que remetem ao "Rei" do louva-a-deus de Hong Kong, Grão-MestreWong Hon Funn. A Northern Mantis Brazil segue o currículo oficial da escola do Mestre Tony Chuy, mantendo a integridade do sistema tradicional enquanto promove seu crescimento para as futuras gerações.
